I Beam
I Beam is a commission for 'An Artist' Alphabet' project, which took place at Palace Arts Gallery, Redcar in 2017. The project allocated artists a letter and incorporate that letter into a piece of art. I was assigned 'I' and created this piece with the I beam emerging from the rollers, with a focus on the vibrancy and colour of the hot steel.
Coke Oven Triptych
This triptych was created for the exhibition “The Black Path”, House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough, 2016; curated by Gavin Parry and Chris Whitehead.
The Black Path was a route taken by steel workers and it runs from Warrenby, Redcar through to Middlesbrough. It was aptly named due to the waste released from the coke ovens; covering the path in black residue. I was fortunate to have walked the path alongside the working coke ovens and this triptych is my response to that experience.
